Danika Portz’s “House Becomes a Home” Wins NFM’s Anthem Contest

The 8-month search for NFM’s official song is now complete. “House Becomes a Home,” by Danika Portz, is the winner of NFM’s $25,000 grand prize and will be used in upcoming NFM commercials. The goals of the contest were to provide exposure for up-and-coming artists while also finding a theme song that captures the spirit of NFM and speaks to a modern idea of home. NFM’s contest committee chose Portz’s song, citing her ability to capture the big and small moments of home. Portz, who is an Iowa native, now calls Nashville home.

Initially, there were over 400 song entries. In March, NFM’s contest committee narrowed the entries to a top 10 and voting was opened to the public to narrow the songs to 5 Finalists. Last night, all 5 Finalists performed live at the SumTur Amphitheater in Papillion, Neb., with proceeds going to Omaha Girls Rock, an organization dedicated to empowering youth through music education.

NFM originally intended to announce the contest winner in early April. Due to complications related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the concert was pushed back until a suitable outdoor venue could be arranged.
“Our winning song does a perfect job of capturing the emotion of what makes a house a home. When you look at all of those moments, the objects and things that our customers purchase from NFM really set the stage and become the backdrop for life’s great memories and moments made at home,” said Becca Sudbeck, Brand Manager at NFM.
