Lucinda Williams is partnering with Laura McCarthy and Kelley Swindall to launch Lucinda’s, a new honky-tonk “Southern country bar” in New York City’s East Village. The new venue, which is set to open to the public on July 31, is located in the former Brownie’s space at 169 Avenue A. Lucinda’s will celebrate Williams’ career with weekly bluegrass nights, songwriter open mics, live country performances, and country karaoke, while featuring a southern-inspired drink menu, and a wine list curated by the three-time Grammy winner herself. “We are really excited to have a down-home, honky tonk country bar in the East Village,” McCarthy said in a statement. “There is some kind of magic for music in that location. I have felt it since we opened Brownies in the late ’80s. It’s exciting to do this with Lucinda and the team.” Williams hosted a private opening event on Tuesday (July 29), where she and her band performed after a set by Laura Cantrell. (Billboard)
